Why these Families Used Their Second Round Stimulus Money to Buy Used Cars?
If you are yet to receive your second round of stimulus money from the US Department of Treasury, it should arrive any day now. However, some families in South Carolina have already received theirs and started using the $600 meticulously to assure themselves long-term returns for the entire family. A few of them came to Family Auto of White Horse Road to buy used cars. They used the stimulus money to pay a down payment for the vehicle and bought themselves a car. So, we took the opportunity to ask these families why they decided to spend the $600 in such a way? What was their motivation? Here’s what they told us.
“I have to drive to work every day and public transit is not yet safe” – Wendy Woods
Lab Technician Wendy S. Woods did not think twice once the second stimulus money was reflected in her bank account. She says that she immediately knew how she wanted to spend the money. “I have to go to work every day; my job cannot be done from home. Every time I stepped out throughout these past few months, I kept worrying that I am risking the lives of my 3 kids. But no more of that.” The Woods family received a total of $3,000, $600 per member. She used that to pay the down for a used Nissan Sentra and financed the rest with us.
“My commute kills a lot of my time” – Helen Morales
Helen B. Morales was looking to buy a car for some time now. However, the economic downturn caused by the pandemic affected her job as an executive recruiter. Now that things have picked up again, Helen says that she wants a vehicle to save time on commute and use the extra hours to earn more per month.“I won’t lie but we took a hit during COVID. The first stimulus check really helped and now I want to use the second to settle my job’s future to provide better for my family. A used car will reduce my commute time. I can spend more time at my job and with the family. I am expecting to increase my income.” Helen bought a used Honda Accord.
“A car is a life-savior, isn’t it?” – Bart S. Murrah
Bart told us that his old SUV was due for an upgrade. But the pandemic sent his income for a toss and botched up his plans. “During the pandemic, I frequently found myself borrowing my neighbor’s car to get daily groceries and that was at a time when people were skeptical in lending anything to others. I needed the first stimulus check for the family. So, I am here with the second payment to trade-in my SUV and get the new used RAV4. Don’t want to borrow a car anymore.” The trade-in along with the second stimulus money helped Bart to buy a popular model. The finance deal we got him was inside his budget as well.
